Steel Magnolia

Steel Magnolia_blog

This is the first in a 3 painting series dedicated to the Hoefen family.  They recently lost their son/husband/brother/uncle Bret after a courageous fight with a nasty cancer.  I chose 3 of my favorite pics from their amazing roadtrip across the US (there were so many to choose from!)

I love this name Steel Magnolia that Jim and Betsy gave to his wife Shannon. Urban Dictionary: A southern woman who is strong and independent, yet feminine. Here is the link to their entry:

Everyone who has followed Bret’s blog has come to know Shannon, but I was surprised when my mom called after meeting her at the funeral and she was so sweet and caring and knew just as much about our family, and everyone she greeted. Truly a special girl.  Bret sharing his story and your adventures with us brought a small town closer together.  Stay strong and know you have a whole network of friends out here thinking of you, sending good energy and virtual hugs your way.

Bret taking this picture of you at Sequoia National Park was my inspiration:
